"The Charm Farm" 09/24/2009

I drove Dan to work this morning because my car was getting serviced and I needed to get new tires for Dan's car.

Funny thing, we were driving down Hwy. 360 and I looked off to the right and saw the American Airlines Learning Center.   I can't believe how my life has come full circle in so many ways.

I can remember being in my early 20's working in Los Angeles, feeling restless with what I was doing.  I just didn't see myself working in an office day after day.  Wanting to spread my wings, I decided on a whim, "I am going to apply to a bunch of airlines to become a flight attendant".  Yes, I am going to see the world!  I got busy sending out my resume and American Airlines was the first to bite.  They flew me out to Dallas (which sounded so glamorous to me) for an interview and then after about six hours of interview after interview and medical testing and measuring and weighing you.  (Can you believe that?)  They told me that I was to begin Flight Attendant training in four weeks and I could be based anywhere in the country.  Wow......cool!  My poor parents didn't even know of this idea and were a little rattled.  They know me and that  I am going to do what I am going to do and so they painted a smile on their faces and threw me a going away party and wished me "good luck".

I digress, the American Airlines Learning Center was nicknamed the "The Charm Farm" because in the early 90's, they definately wanted little wax charming ladies to offer great customer service to their passengers.  "Red lips and red tips" was their motto.  We were given mini makeovers.  They chopped all of my crazy curly hair off and pinned it back so tight, I looked like I just got a face lift.

The whole experience was so exhilirating to me.  Here I was, this young women, who lived a fairly sheltered life and who was not very worldly,  given the opportunity to see the world.  I was hoping to be based in New York after my eight weeks of training were up but I was based in Los Angeles.  That worked out pretty well since that IS where Dan was still living and we were dating off and on and I did eventually marry this amazing man.  Yea, I'd say, that worked out well!

Anyway, I was driving by "The Charm Farm" this morning quietly reminising and thinking that once again God knew all of these twists and turns in my life.  I am excited to see the next 20 years unravel.  I know they will be filled with joy and sorrow and I am purposefully going to embrace every minute oof my experiences.  This is an awesome ride and I don't want to miss a thing.
