La Poste 02/15/2010

Well, that was easier than I thought.

I had to mail off some bills at our local post office this morning.  I remember reading in all of my books how dreadful the post office was; having to stand in line forever, everyone closing in on you.

Things have changed in France.  They now have about five automated machines, that weigh your letters/packages and spits out your stamps.  I was pleasantly surprised to see a button on the automated machine in English.  Yes!  It was a breeze.

I just hope that I filled the French checks out properly.  They are different than the US and I am crossing my fingers.  There are a number of mailboxes within the post office for different zip codes.  As I checked and double checked I dropped the letters in praying that they get to the correct location.

One more small "first" crossed off my list.  Piece of cake!

You sound like you are getting on well now. I hope every "first" you achieve helps you feel more like you are fitting in better to your new life.

And everything happens at the post office! I don't ever remember hearing that the post office was a horrible experience. I have been in several and although the wait can be a bit, people are usually helpful.
Maybe these are all misconceptions or urban legends about Paris that you can mark off your list!
